The collaboration, which began in early 2024, helps improve Lyft’s routing and autonomous vehicle systems through access to real-time, street-level spatial data. The platform uses AI-enabled dashcams that detect and capture road changes such as detours, construction, new signs, or updated lane markings. These dashcams upload the data, which is reviewed and added to a live map that stays updated in near real time.Contributors worldwide are rewarded with HONEY tokens, the native cryptocurrency of the Hivemapper ecosystem, for uploading verified street imagery. This dynamic process ensures fresh, high-fidelity spatial intelligence, covering both mapped and unmapped regions with continuous input from everyday drivers.“Maps can’t be an afterthought—they need to be crowdsourced, live, accurate, and open,” said Ariel Seidman, Bee Maps CEO, in a joint press release. “We’re proud to arm a true innovator like Lyft with the constantly updated street-level spatial intelligence that enables their vision.”Lyft Uses Data, Not Driver ContributionsThough Lyft licenses Bee Maps’ data, its drivers are not part of the data collection process. Additionally, the partnership helps Lyft strengthen its autonomous vehicle strategy by improving its ability to navigate through rapidly changing road environments. This method enables Lyft to adapt faster to road changes, relying on an external contributor network for real-time updates.
